JEWELLERY QUARTER SCHEME MARKS MORE THAN 60 PER CENT OF HOMES SOLD AS CONSTRUCTION NEARS COMPLETION

Over 60% Sold At Photographic Works

Launched as one of Birmingham’s most eagerly anticipated residential developments, Photographic Works in the city’s Jewellery Quarter, is living up to its billing, with more than 60 per cent of the new homes already sold.

Photographic Works has seen the site of a former photo processing building, in Camden Street, transformed into 50 new homes by developers, Hatchbury.

The first residents have moved in and are already enjoying their new homes as the finishing touches are made to external finishes and landscaping on the project. The overwhelming majority of sales have been to local purchasers with a third taking advantage of Help to Buy support.

The site was home to the Munn’s Brothers photographic processing works for more than four decades, which developed films for companies including Boots as well as a wide range of independent chemists in Birmingham and across the West Midlands.

Named Photographic Works in honour of this, the development has been cleverly designed by local architects BPN Architects to include a variety of brickwork detailing and features which reflect the site’s former use.

It features 50 spacious one and two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom duplex apartments, many benefitting from access to communal landscaped gardens or private balconies. Private parking and bicycle storage are also provided on site.

Prices started on the development from £222,000, with apartments at Photographic Works available on a 999 year lease and residents having a share of the freehold.

Isaac Burner, associate in the residential development sales team at agents Savills, said: "Photographic Works has proven extremely popular amongst first time buyers and those wanting to experience the vibrant lifestyle that the Jewellery Quarter offers. Having access to some of Birmingham’s most popular amenities, outdoor space and a wealth of natural light in each home has really helped add to the scheme’s appeal to the local market."

John Kennedy, Director of Hatchbury, said: “It has been an incredibly exciting project and with our partnership with Hortus Investments it has been great to be a part of the exciting story of regeneration and success for Birmingham and for the Jewellery Quarter.

"Our ethos at Hatchbury is to ‘retain and enhance’ and with Photographic Works we set out to deliver a quality scheme which adds value to the local area and creates homes that people want to live in. The feedback we have had from residents who have moved into their new homes has been hugely positive."

"Reaching the milestone of 60 % of the new homes at Photographic Works being sold demonstrates that it is an approach which clearly resonates with purchasers and for that we are very pleased and proud."

The Photographic Works construction programme has been funded by Shawbrook Bank, project managed by Jewellery Quarter-based project managers and quantity surveyors PMP Consultants and is being built by Solihull-based construction company mac-group.
